Ningde Times suspends lithium mine production in Jiangxi for three months-10th,August 2025
Chinese battery giant CATL has reportedly suspended production at a large lithium mine in Jiangxi Province for at least three months.
Bloomberg reported on Sunday (August 10th) citing informed sources that CATL has announced internally that the Jianxiawo mine will temporarily
cease production. One of the insiders said that the affiliated smelter in Yichun has received notification.
Traders have been closely monitoring the Jianxiawo mine and the extension of the mining license originally scheduled to expire on Saturday
(August 9th).
In recent weeks, the lithium industry has been hit by severe fluctuations in spot, futures, and stock markets, while the Panxiawo mine has attracted
much attention due to license renewal issues. Last week, traders used drones to fly over the mine in hopes of understanding the current production
situation. It is predicted that the lithium ore production of the mine accounts for about 3% of the global total production.
The license disputes and production shutdowns at CATL come at a time when Beijing is cracking down on overcapacity in multiple industries and
increasing scrutiny of mining operations. However, for an industry that has been plagued by oversupply for over two years, the temporary
shutdown of this important link in the supply chain will be a major benefit.
