Lithium hydroxide, is the 1 kind of inorganic compounds, chemical formula LiOH, white crystalline powder, soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, with strong alkaline (corrosive). In addition, lithium hydroxide is hygroscopic and easily absorbs moisture in the air to cause deliquescence. Considering the above characteristics, lithium hydroxide storage and transportation should pay attention to the following matters:
(1) Packaging: sealed with polyethylene bags, lined with three layers of kraft paper plastic bags for the outer packaging.
(2) Storage: The site must be kept dry and clean, avoid open flames and heat sources, and avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures. The floor of the warehouse shall be flat and equipped with dust-proof and rain-proof facilities and anti-leakage measures. Avoid mixing with oxidants, acids, food chemicals, etc. to prevent chemical reactions.
(3) Transportation: the railway line transportation must strictly implement the Ministry of Railways "dangerous goods transport rules" for assembly, to ensure that the packaging is complete and safe loading. Avoid exposure to the sun, rain and high temperature during transportation. Transport vehicles shall be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment to prevent accidents.
Both lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide are lithium salts, and the raw materials used in the production of the two are the same, and both are important raw materials for the production of lithium battery cathode materials. However, because lithium hydroxide has strong corrosive characteristics, its production is relatively difficult. At present, lithium carbonate is mainly used in the production of lithium iron phosphate and ternary materials in the medium and low nickel positive materials (NCM 111, 523 and some 622), while lithium hydroxide is mainly used in the production of ternary materials in the high nickel positive materials (part NCM622, all NCM811, NCA).
Because the sintering temperature of low and medium nickel ternary materials such as NCM 523 and NCM 333 is higher, lithium carbonate can be used, while NCM622 can be used for both lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide, which has higher performance.
