Inorganic Pigments in Cosmetics

1.Basic knowledge: inorganic raw materials, also called mineral pigments, have excellent light stability and heat resistance, are insoluble in water and organic solvents, are resistant to alkali and weak acid except ultramarine, have fewer colors, have poorer tinting strength than organic pigments, and are darker in color. Iron oxide, carbon black, ultramarine and many white pigments are widely used in products such as eye black, eyebrow pencil, foundation cream, powder cake, rouge and soap.

2.white pigments: mainly titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, as well as bismuth oxychloride (colorless-yellowish powder), aluminum powder (silver-silver gray powder).

3.Colored pigments

3.1 iron oxide

3.1.1 iron oxide yellow: yellow powder, bright color, tinting strength and hiding power is very high, light resistance, alkali resistance, heat resistance, mainly used for foundation cream and other beauty cosmetics.

3.1.2 iron oxide red: dark red or russet powder, non-toxic and tasteless, tinting strength and covering power, mainly used in paint, foundation cream and other beauty cosmetics.

3.1.3 Iron oxide black: black powder, non-toxic, tasteless, no side effects, strong tinting strength and hiding power, alkali resistance but not acid resistance, used for coloring cosmetics.

3.2 chromium oxide green: dark green crystal powder, metallic luster, strong hiding power, good fastness, used in eye cosmetics.

3.3 iron blue: the main component is ferric ammonium ferrocyanide or ferric ferrocyanide or their mixture, blue-purple blue powder, bright color, strong coloring power, but the hiding power is poor, light and acid resistance, can not be shared with alkaline pigments, used in cosmetics as eye black, eyebrow pencil and other pigments.

3.4 ultramarine: by sulfur, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, kaolin, charcoal, rosin and other mixed under high temperature firing, the use of different raw materials and combustion temperature can be obtained from green to purplish red and other different colors of ultramarine, tinting power covering power is poor, used in cosmetics as eye black, eyebrow pencil and other pigments.

3.5 carbon black: tinting strength and hiding power, widely used in black beauty cosmetics such as eye, eyebrow pencil and drama cosmetics.
