Dimethyl sulfide, also known as thiobis methane. Colorless liquid. Has volatility.

When the concentration is high, there is a foul odor.

When the concentration is extremely low (0.1 × 10-6~3.0 × 10-6), there is a green aroma of vegetables.

Natural products are found in American mint, Algerian vanilla oil, and cream.

The relative molecular weight is 62.13. Relative density 0.8483. Melting point -98.3 ℃. Boiling point 37.3 ℃. Refractive index 1.4438.

Flash point -36 ℃, -17.8 ℃ (closed). Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether.

Flammable. Steam and air can form an explosive mixture with an explosive limit of 2.2% to 19.7% by volume.

Easy to oxidize, generating sulfoxides or sulfones;

By reacting with halogenated hydrocarbons, sulfonium salts are formed,

which then react with wet silver hydroxide to produce the strongly alkaline compound sulfonium base.

Application of dimethyl sulfide

Dimethyl sulfide, as a spice, is allowed to be used in accordance with the provisions of GB2760-1996, and is used to prepare green flavor essence;

Industrial solvents, used as spinning solvents for polyacrylonitrile and synthetic fibers;

Urban gas odorant; Plastic release agent; Hydraulic oil solvent; Low temperature anti-corrosion agent for batteries;

External use of drugs such as penetration enhancers.

Dimethyl sulfide can be used to produce dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethyl sulfoxide, methionine, and intermediates for pesticides.

Production method of dimethyl sulfide

① Methanol and carbon disulfide react under heating to produce dimethyl sulfide.

② Methanol and hydrogen sulfide react under the action of catalyst γ - alumina by heating,

and then cool and condense to produce dimethyl sulfide.

③ Dimethyl sulfate reacts with sodium sulfide at 90 ℃ to produce dimethyl sulfide.

④ Potassium sulfide and chloromethane react in methanol solution to produce dimethyl sulfide.

⑤ Potassium methylsulfate reacts with potassium sulfide to produce dimethyl sulfide.

New technology of dimethyl sulfide

Nuoqiying Fine Chemical Technology is committed to the development of new technologies for fine chemicals,

with the aim of developing fixed bed green process technology.

We aim to achieve a win-win situation for both parties and establish a strategic partnership.

Using hydrogen sulfide and methanol as raw materials and solid acid as catalyst,

dimethyl sulfide is generated with high selectivity in a fixed bed reactor.

After simple separation of the reaction products, the purity of dimethyl sulfide can reach 99.5%,

making it an environmentally friendly dimethyl sulfide production process.

For enterprises with hydrogen sulfide resources, the market prospects for dimethyl sulfide are promising.

At present, the market price of dimethyl sulfide is as high as 12000 yuan/ton.

The market price of dimethyl sulfoxide, a downstream product of dimethyl sulfide, is as high as 30000 yuan/ton.

Developing downstream products with high added value of hydrogen sulfide is the direction of enterprise transformation.
